Screencasts are a technology tool that allows for exploration and in depth knowledge acquisition. Screencast videos can be used as tutorials for lesson plans, presentations, demonstrations, and explanations!
PART IV: HOW TO GET STARTED
internet accessIn order to create a screencast, you must have internet access in order to download or use the software on your computer. If your school does not have a 1:1 technology initiative for students, allow your students to bring their own devices so that they can access the internet.
audio recording deviceIn order to create a screencast, you must have an audio recording device such as a microphone or headset with microphone.
purposeBecause screencasting is a tool that can be learned in a quick manner, your students will want to use screencasting for many different activities. Since screencasting is basically recording a computer screen while narrating, have ideas in mind about how to use the screencast to achieve the best educational results. What will the topic of the screencast be? Who is the audience? What kind of narration should the students prepare? What are the concepts you want your students to take away from creating their screencast?
FAMILIARIZE YOURSELFTake time to explore the different types of screencast software that exists on the internet. While the end goal is the same, each program offers slight variations in the way they function. While some programs cost money, there are many available programs that are free and are capable of producing a quality screencast. By the time you have explored your options, you will have gained enough experience in screencasting to select a program that has the most benefit for your students.

PART V: MY THOUGHTS ON screencasting
Screencasting is definitely a tool that I find to be very beneficial. It is a great way to create tutorial videos to share with your students. Using screencasting to create tutorial videos is also a great way to provide differentiated learning to your students. If you use screencasting to create online tutorial videos for various lessons, your students will be able to access these videos from any location or time.
To record my screencasts, I prefer Screencast-o-matic. While the video quality can be slightly blurred when screencasting a presentation, I have found that Sceencast-o-matic is simple to use and is able to meet my needs for creating screencasts. Its easy-to-use interface will have you putting on your own screencasts in just minutes!
In my opinion, screencasting is a technology tool that is definitely worth implementing into your classroom. Whether you use it for instructing students or having them relate their own knowledge, the results of using screencasts are definitely worth going for!
