why technology?
As education began moving out of the 20th century, teachers were realizing that technology and computer use were becoming more prominent teaching tools throughout schools. As the years went on, computers became a staple in almost every house and the pace of technology began to accelerate rapidly. As we have moved into a more technology-driven society, some teachers have begun to embrace these new resources as an integral part of their classroom. Others, however, have clung to the ideas of the past without much concern for how it may affect their students. This is not out of spite towards students, but is rather an extension of the old belief that students learn best by sitting in a classroom and listening to a teacher lecture about a given topic.
What many teachers do not realize is that incorporating new technology throughout their curriculum is far easier than it seems. Our students have grown up surrounded by tech of all types, and they come to school with a lot of experience. Technology interfaces have become more user-friendly, and the amount of tools increases by the day. All teachers have to do is put a little bit of thought and research into a technology tool, and we can create the beginnings of a 21st century classroom. This last thought, however, begs the question: Where do we start?
That's where this site comes in. Here you will find my top ten tech tools that I find to be valuable in the classroom. They are user-friendly and can be integrated easily within any curriculum. Even though our jobs may be extremely busy, using a tech tool does not force you to overwork yourself, but instead it should create a classroom that interfaces with technology effortlessly.
